The recreation program at Solstice provides the girls with a well rounded experience of the outdoors, local art, community events, and service. We create a culture that fosters the development of strong, positive identities among young women. As they learn and develop alongside one another, they form trusting and caring relationships with each other that can last a lifetime.
We are surrounded by a magnificent playground that we utilize as our classroom. We provide the girls with an opportunity to master a wide range of skills in the outdoor setting that lead them to develop healthy lifestyles. Some of these activities include: downhill skiing/snowboarding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, rock climbing, canoeing & kayaking, whitewater rafting, hiking, biking, and camping. They attend local Arts Festivals, state fairs, plays, performances, museums, local sporting events, and the list goes on.
Volunteering is a significant component of our program. The girls participate in service twice a month. This gives them an opportunity to look outside of themselves and give back to their community. Some of the service projects include: volunteering at the Salt Lake City marathon, Special Olympics events, Utah Food Bank, Ogden Nature Center, working with Wasatch community gardens, local animal shelters, nursing homes, and various other community awareness events.
Our intention is to create an environment where they are constantly learning through experiencing. Through this experiential model, the insight they gain becomes a very powerful tool that they can apply to their daily lives. As they are continually challenged in a number of different realms, our hope is that the girls gain a better understanding of themselves as a whole person.
